John Wayne: The Signature Collection DVD Westerns (2009) Quality Guaranteed

Box set containing five films starring the legendary actor John Wayne. ‘The Searchers’ (1956) tells the story of Ethan Edwards (Wayne), an ex-confederate soldier who swears revenge after his brother’s family is butchered by Comanches and his niece (Natalie Wood) is kidnapped. Accompanied by Martin Pawley (Jeffrey Hunter), a young foundling raised by the family, Ethan sets out on a epic seven-year search for the missing girl. But as their quest draws to a close, Martin begins to realise the extent to which Ethan has been dehumanised by his own thirst for revenge. In ‘Chisum’ (1970), Wayne stars as real-life ranch owner John Chisum, battling to save his land from a ruthless developer (Forrest Tucker). Based on the events of New Mexico’s 1878 Lincoln County War, which saw Chisum enlisting the help of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid to protect what was rightfully his. In ‘Rio Bravo’ (1971, Sheriff John T Chance (Wayne) is holding a murderous villain in his cell while waiting for a magistrate to collect him for trial. The criminal’s associates are desperate to free him, and will stop at nothing to achieve their goal. Chance’s only allies are his drunken deputy (Dean Martin), a wily old coot (Walter Brennan) and an eager young hothead (Rick Nelson). In ‘The Cowboys’ (1959), an ageing rancher (Wayne) is forced to hire eleven schoolboys to help him herd his cattle to market, when his regular hands run off to join a goldrush. Along the way the boys are easy prey for villains, but they soon become hardened killers. In ‘Cahill – US Marshall’ (1973), US Marshal JD Cahill (Wayne) discovers his two teenage sons have become criminals after getting involved in a bank robbery in which a local sheriff and deputy were killed. Cahill sets out to take on the bad guys alone, even if it means bringing down his own sons.
