From With a puny stage set, minimalist lighting and short duration, Liberty X’s Just a Little is appropriately titled. This recording of the Cardiff date from their 2003 UK tour does however include all the hits from their debut album (“Thinking it Over”, “Doin’ It”, “Just a Little”, “Got to Have Your Love” and “Holding On”), as well as two new songs from their second (“Being Nobody” and “Jumpin'”). It’s a lightweight and low-budget show that might have been better padded-out with one of S Club 7’s or Steps’ favourite live show expanders: getting each member to perform a cover version of a favourite song. To add a bit more razzmatazz, a few more lasers and dancers wouldn’t have gone amiss either. That said Tony, Jessica, Kevin, Michelle and Kelli are competent stage performers and no doubt, as their back catalogue expands and the money rolls in, they’ll be able to put on future live show extravaganzas.
Recognising that the live show was far from extensive, the disc also includes Liberty X’s first six promos. Their videos have been always been swish, sophisticated affairs, especially the chic promo for ballad “Holding On”. The futuristic video for “Being Nobody”–their alternative-pop collaboration with top underground dance producer Richard X–intelligently parodies the production-line mentality of modern culture. Overall, it’s a mixed bag of material, which is likely both to please and disappoint fans.
On the DVD: Just a Little may have its shortcomings as a concert DVD, but the disc’s layout is excellent. Featuring an array of specially recorded material, each of the sub-menus are personally introduced by a member of the band. The Who Wants to be a Millionaire-style quiz has exclusive footage of the band up for grabs if all ten of the randomly generated questions are answered correctly, while the behind-the-scenes feature provides a unique insight into the origins and success of
