The Romance Collection DVD Comedy/Romance (2008) Matthew McConaughey

Collection of four romantic comedies. In ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ (2003), Andie (Kate Hudson) works on the advice column of a women’s magazine, but she yearns to be a serious journalist. When her friend Michelle (Kathryn Hahn) complains of being dumped, and her editor (Bebe Neuwirth) is looking for someone to write an article on how to win and lose a man in ten days, Andie jumps at the chance; witnessed by two women from an advertising agency. Ben (Matthew McConaughey), meanwhile, works for the same advertising firm and is trying to win a place on a very big account with a diamond firm. Egged on by his two female colleagues, Ben tells his boss that he is the man for the job as he can make any woman fall for him within two weeks. The scene is set, Ben and Andie are set up to choose each other for their hidden agendas and the pair find that they have to work twice as hard to succeed. In ‘Failure to Launch’ (2006), McConaughey plays Tripp, a thirtysomething slacker who is content to remain living at his parents’ house, getting his mother (Kathy Bates) to do his laundry while he gets on with the serious business of lazing around. In order to force Tripp to finally flee the nest, his parents hire beautiful and vivacious Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker) to pretend to fall in love with him and convince him to move out. What follows is a romantic battle of wills as Tripp does his best to keep hold of his easy life. In ‘Just Like Heaven’ (2005), when lonely David Abbot (Mark Ruffalo) moves into a new apartment, he meets the spirit of Elizabeth (Reese Witherspoon), a young doctor who used to live in the apartment and who was killed in a car accident – only she doesn’t know that she’s dead. While David starts to think he’s going crazy, Elizabeth refuses to give up her place in the flat, until gradually the two mismatched flat mates start to fall in love. Finally, in ‘Forces of Nature’ (1999), just two days before his wedding, Ben (Ben Affleck) is stranded in New York when his plane skids out of control. Together with eccentric passenger Sarah (Sandra Bullock), Ben attempts to hitch a lift to his wedding, but is delayed when the driver is arrested for possession of marijuana. From then on, nothing goes right for the hapless Ben, but the free-spirited Sarah affects the outlook of the straight-laced husband-to-be. As they travel across America, the oddly-matched couple realise they have a lot to offer each other.
